common chamomile
Matricaria chamomilla
an annual plant growing up to 50 cm tall. For medicinal purposes, the flower heads are harvested at the beginning of flowering when the white petals are flat. An infusion made from the flower heads is used for stomach disorders, colic in children, and feverish conditions; externally, it is used as a disinfectant. Chamomile essential oil has a relaxing and soothing effect, relieving tense muscles. Sow
mid-August–Septemberor in early spring; do not cover the seeds, but gently press them into the soil. Seedlings emerge after 1–2 weeks.
