How do I correctly measure the tread using this device?

Measure the depth of the grooves in the center of the tread.
Take measurements in a straight line (within the same groove) at three points, spaced as evenly as possible. Be sure to check whether the tread is wearing evenly across the entire surface.
Press the tip against the bottom of the groove and read the value on the scale.
Measuring tread depth is the perfect time to check the depth of the side grooves; if they are wearing unevenly, this may indicate improper wheel alignment.
