Queen of May butterhead lettuce - seed tape
Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata
An early variety intended for early cultivation in open ground and under cover. Forms large, tightly closed, spherical heads with firm leaves. Fairly resistant to downy mildew and moderately resistant to gray mold. Yields well in the second year after manure application, in warm, well-drained, sufficiently moist soils. Sow 1 cm deep in spring (April–May) for an autumn harvest in August.
The seed tape facilitates sowing; thanks to the proper spacing of seeds on the tape, it eliminates the need for thinning and ensures good yields.
The package contains 6 m of seed tape
Growing conditions:
- Prepare the soil by removing stones and raking to level and break up the surface.
- Make a shallow furrow in the soil, approx. 1–1.5 cm deep. Lay out the tape and cover it with a layer of soil.
- Water generously and keep the soil moist, preventing it from drying out to facilitate germination.
Sowing: April–May and August
Harvest: mid-May–July and mid-September–October
Spacing: 30–40 x 20–25 cm
